Marsupial Delivery of a Toughbot by a Talon robot Marsupial Delivery of a Toughbot by a Talon robot
Posted by: aferworn

Video duration: 136 seconds

Filmed at the first NIST/DHS robot evaluation exercise at "Disaster City" Texas in 2006. The Talon carries a Toughbot and drops it into a hole in a roof. The Toughbot was broken but we set it up to show the utility of marsupial delivery of robots in usar environments.

AirRobot in flight AirRobot in flight

Video duration: 144 seconds

AirRobot is a small quad-rotor UAV that can be employed for USAR reconnaissance. It has good loiter time, is simple to operate and is highly versatile. It can carry a number of sensors but probably has immediate application in providing a stable bird's eye view of an incident site. video taken during the 2007 NIST/DHS Response Robot evaluation exercise at Disaster City, Texas

Dragon Runner Dragon Runner
Posted by: aferworn

Video duration: 123 seconds

This small, tossable, wireless and man-packable robot is in extensive use by U.S. Forces for activities like under-vehicle inspection and local surveillance. The device has applicability in USAR environments where human entry may be precluded and rubble is light. This could mean the periphery of a collapse or perhaps being thrown into an upper story for further inspection of the structure.

Video duration: 214 seconds

An Andros robot with a proficient operator was tasked to remove a piece of rebar placed in rubble. The operator had both line of sight views and camera views yet the task was still very difficult to complete.

Eyeball surveillance robot throw Eyeball surveillance robot throw
Posted by: aferworn

Video duration: 169 seconds

The Eyeball is a self-righting, throwable, spinning camera system initially intended for special operations but with application in USAR. It is tough, weighs about the same as a baseball and is easy to deploy.
The device should probably receive a coat of florescent paint before deployment or you may not find it again.

Video duration: 141 seconds

The Canine Augmentation Technology (CAT) project is a joint undertaking between the N-CART lab in Ryerson Unversity and the PERT team of the Ontario Provincial Police.
In this trial we test a head-mounted audio-video system on the USAR canine Dare. This prototype was eventually abandoned but you will see the idea has merit.

Video duration: 148 seconds

The Canine Remote Deployment System (CRDS) is a dog-mounted remote delivery system for USAR canines. The CRDS is loaded with a pack...called an "underdog"...for delivery to a casualty trapped in rubble who cannot be reached by human responders.

Taking delivery of a Pedsco robot Taking delivery of a Pedsco robot
Posted by: aferworn

Video duration: 10 seconds

In 2006 we took delivery of decommissioned EOD robot from PERT. The idea was that we were to devise mechanism that would improve its performance. Actually, it has very good performance given that it is quite old. The first thing we tried, of course, was driving it up some stairs. It worked but we did not shoot any video...and there were some relieved grad students when the OPP took it back.

Video duration: 29 seconds

The Wasp UAV is notable in that it is very small in size, offers good loiter time and cameras and can be rolled up and stored in a can as its wings bend.
This video was taken at the 2006 NIST/DHS Response Robot Evaluation Exercise. The crash landing against the safety fence was not planned but it was interesting.
